The program provides an academic, empirical, and practical basis for working in formal and informal educational settings.<br \/>Students of the department will acquire extensive knowledge in teaching their discipline alongside a broad interdisciplinary perspective of teaching processes, designing and developing learning environments, teacher education processes, and professional development. Doctoral students are required to take a small number of courses while the bulk of their studies involves writing a research proposal, conducting the research, and writing the final dissertation guided by a personal supervisor from the departmental faculty. The degree takes approximately four years. In exceptional cases, a student may be accepted to the Direct Doctoral track which includes studying for a Master of Arts (without having to write the MA thesis).
